We are very proud to be a “School of Sanctuary” in Liverpool.

In 2015, we were one of the first schools in the city to be awarded School of Sanctuary status and have now received accreditation again. We have been asked to support other schools who are also looking to become a School of Sanctuary.

This means we have been recognised for providing a safe, inclusive and welcoming place for everyone, including anyone seeking sanctuary. This could be people whose lives were in danger in their own country, who have troubles at home or are just looking for a space of safety.

Our ambition is to help our children and their families, staff and the community to understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary and to extend a warm welcome to everyone as equal, valued members of our school community.

We always welcome any suggestions or ideas parents may have to support this. Please speak to our Head Teacher Tam Bennett to discuss or for further details.

Look at the photos below of when Councillor Barbara Murray and Gill Rowlands from School Improvement Liverpool came to give us our latest award. The children loved showing them how we are “All friends at Abercromby”!
