We welcome all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and/or Disability (SEND), into our school, and are proud of the progress children with SEND make during their time with us. All pupils at Abercromby Nursery School follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and, if appropriate, are given further support either through extra 1:1 support from their key person, through small group work and through specific intervention e.g. a language programme. We are committed to narrowing the attainment gap between children who have SEND and those that do not. Regular attendance is vitally important to enable children to achieve their full potential and we work alongside parents to ensure their child is able to attend school regardless of any additional needs

At Abercromby, our Special Educational Needs Coordinator or SENCO is Tamara Bennett, who has received appropriate training by completing the Masters’ level National Award for SENCOs. Her role is to support class teachers to meet their statutory duties to support families and their children with any additional needs, liaising with families and outside agencies. Our Governor with responsibility for SEND is Jo Eyles. If you have any concerns regarding your child, please speak to your child’s class teacher first. You can also make an appointment to speak to Tam or Jo who will be happy to meet with you. They may contacted as follows:
