We are very proud to be a “School of Sanctuary” in Liverpool.

In 2015, we were one of the first schools in the city to be awarded School of Sanctuary status, received reaccreditation again in 2018 and now for the third time in 2022. We have been asked to support other schools who are also looking to become a School of Sanctuary.

This award is very close to our heart – just take a look at our mission statement and aims and our Abercromby values to see how the School of Sanctuary principles are the foundation for everything we do.

We have been recognised for providing a safe, inclusive and welcoming place for everyone, including anyone seeking sanctuary. This could be people whose lives were in danger in their own country, who have troubles at home or are just looking for a space of safety.

Our ambition is to help our children and their families, staff and the community to understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary and to extend a warm welcome to everyone as equal, valued members of our school community.

We always welcome any suggestions or ideas parents may have to support this. Please speak to our Head Teacher Tam Bennett to discuss or for further details.

The photos below are from when Councillor Barbara Murray and Gill Rowlands from School Improvement Liverpool came to give us our award in 2018. The children loved showing them how we are “All friends at Abercromby”!
