Trauma-Informed Practice at Abercromby Nursery School

At Abercromby Nursery School, we are proud to be a trauma-informed school where relationships, wellbeing and emotional safety are at the heart of everything we do. Our approach is rooted in an understanding of attachment, child development and the impact that adverse experiences can have on children’s learning, behaviour and wellbeing.

Following our accreditation visit on 2nd July 2026, we were delighted to be awarded the Bronze Attachment and Trauma Sensitive Schools Award. This recognition reflects our commitment to creating a nurturing, inclusive and supportive environment where every child feels safe, valued, understood and able to thrive.

During the accreditation process, the assessor praised the high-quality provision across the school and recognised the dedication of our staff team in embedding attachment-aware and trauma-informed practice throughout all aspects of nursery life. Particular strengths highlighted included the warm and trusting relationships we build with children and families, our nurturing ethos, and the positive impact these approaches have on children’s confidence, wellbeing and development.

This achievement is a reflection of the strong partnerships between our staff, children, families and external agencies, all of whom contribute to our caring and inclusive school community. We are incredibly proud of this recognition and remain committed to continually developing our trauma-informed practice to ensure the best possible outcomes for every child.

We were especially pleased to receive such positive feedback and are excited to have been encouraged to begin working towards the Silver Attachment and Trauma Sensitive Schools Award.

We invite you to read our accreditation report below and celebrate this achievement with us.
