At Abercromby Nursery School, we are delighted to have an accredited Physical Activity and Nutrition Co-ordinator (PANCo) as part of our team. The PANCo role plays an important part in promoting healthy lifestyles and supporting the wellbeing of all children, helping to ensure that healthy habits are developed from an early age.

Our PANCo works closely with children, families and staff to create opportunities for active play and physical development throughout the nursery day. They help to ensure that children have access to a wide range of engaging physical activities that support their gross and fine motor skills, confidence, coordination, and overall physical wellbeing. By encouraging active lifestyles, we help children build positive attitudes towards movement and exercise that can last a lifetime.

Nutrition is another key aspect of the PANCo role. Our PANCo supports the development of healthy eating habits by sharing information and practical advice with children, families and staff. Through activities, discussions and awareness events, children learn about making healthy food choices and understanding the importance of a balanced diet for growth, development and learning.

The PANCo also promotes the importance of good oral health. Working alongside our wider health and wellbeing curriculum, they help children understand how to care for their teeth and why healthy food choices, regular toothbrushing and dental check-ups are important. Information and guidance are shared with families to support positive oral health habits at home as well as in nursery.

Having an accredited PANCo strengthens our commitment to providing a holistic approach to children’s health and wellbeing. Through their leadership, expertise and enthusiasm, they help create a culture where healthy eating, physical activity and positive wellbeing are valued and celebrated across the whole nursery community.
